The
Boy Who Gave His Lunch to Jesus
a monologue sermon based on John 6:1-21

Today is the greatest day of my life and I just
have to tell you about it. I know, you'll say, "But you're just a boy,
you've got your whole life ahead of you how can this day be the best day
of all?" --- but it is just wait till I tell you what happened.
Some of my friends were going so I asked my mom if I could go to. Well
you know what mom's are like - she packed me some food to take which
slowed me down so I was the last one to meet and the other guys were
just about to leave without me. I'm so glad they didn't!
You
see we had all heard about what happened to John, you know the one who
Baptized people, everyone was wondering if John was the promised one
from God but then King Herod had ordered his head cut off - eehh! And
then heard about Jesus and how some think Jesus is the Messiah. So when
we heard that Jesus was in a boat crossing to our side of the Lake and
people were going to see him, we wanted to go too.
The
crowd was huge, people from all the towns around had come. Jesus was so
easy to listen to...I could have listened to him all day. I think he
knows everything there is to know about everything. He seemed to talk
just to me as if no one else was around but what he said was for
everybody, everywhere. And all the sick people were coming to him and he
was making them all better -- it was fantastic!
Then some of those who are Jesus' close friends went over and whispered
something to him, and Jesus said something to them - I couldn't hear
what it was, but then these men started asking around if anyone had any
food with them.
Well, I had been so interested in listening to Jesus that I hadn't
realized how late it was getting and when they mentioned food my stomach
started to growl and I remember Mom had packed me something - I reached
for my bag and then I thought, "If Jesus is hungry, I would rather give
it to him then eat it myself". So I held up my bag and said, "here's
some food for the Master."
No
one else had anything. I was so pleased when they led me right over to
him and I handed Jesus my lunch bag - he placed his one hand on my head
and with the other took my offering. He spoke to me and he said......
Oh, I was so excited that now I can't remember what he said, but I'll
never forget his eyes and his touch.
The
men with Jesus got everyone to sit down on the grass and then Jesus took
the five little loaves of bread and two fish that my Mom had given me.
He lifted his face to heaven and prayed, then he broke the bread and
gave it to his friends and they gave it to the people. He did the same
thing with the fish. Everyone ate until they were full and when they
collected up all that was left over there were twelve baskets full!
There were so many people there - I'm not sure exactly how many but
everyone was saying afterwards that it was more than 5,000. Wow! They
all ate my bread and fish because Jesus touched them and made them so
much more.
Now you
know why this was the greatest day of my life. When Jesus touched me I
knew He was the One - I gave my whole life to Him - just think if he can
make so much of my lunch what will he do with my life!
