Two Children's Sermon Seeds by DPSers:

2) The Empty Lamp
a children's sermon seed based on Matthew 25:1-13
by Revup

I am going to use an empty lamp as my oject lesson. We will try to light it, but it will not burn. We will conclude the lamp needs fuel, and in our lives the fuel is Jesus. When we fill ourselves with Jesus, we keep going through problems and even keep going eternally.

2) Can't Make It On Another Person's Oil
a children's sermon seed based on Matthew 25:1-13
by Rev. D

Going with the fact from the Matthew passage that you can't make it on another person's oil----I am going to take in tootsie roll pops. I will talk about how I love them and start describing the taste. I will then ask the children if they can really tell how good the tootsie roll pop is by my describing it to them or what would be better? If they tasted it! They need their own tootsie roll pop! It's the same with God.........someone else can tell us............but we have to find out for ourselves about his love.

Jesus Will Be Back
a children's sermon based on 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
by Rev. Frank Schaefer

Greetings, my dear little friends, today I would like to talk to you about the future.  The future, of course, is about what will happen tomorrow, or the day after tomorrow, or next week, or next month, or next year.

What is your feeling about the future?  Do you think things will be better?  Or will they get worse? Do you think that one day people will come to their senses and live together in peace and share what they have?  Or will there be more wars and bombings, more hunger, and crimes? What do you think? (Allow the kids to share)

Wouldn't it be great if we could go back in time to live during the time Jesus was walking among the people in Judea?  O wait, that's going to happen again!   According to our Scripture texts this morning, Jesus will come again.

I once overheard someone ask: "what do Jesus and Arnold Schwarzenegger have in common?"  The answer: "they both said: "I'll be back."

What would you do if Jesus came back today?  Would you go see him?   What kind of questions would you ask him?  Would you get his autograph?

Isn't that good to know though, that Jesus will come back for us?   That is so good to know, because then we don't have to be afraid of the future any longer.  No matter what happens, God is in control of the future; God will send Jesus once again.

Children's Prayer: "Dear God, we thank you that you are in control of our future and of our lives.  Thank you also that you have promised to send Jesus back to us.  Thank you for making the world a perfect  place one day.   Amen."
